A Magical South Florida Holiday Tradition

Each year, The Mandelstam School is proud to partner with the Mandelstam Theatre to present Mouse King — a South Florida holiday favorite and a unique opportunity for young performers to shine.

Written by Sesame Street veteran Noel MacNeal and featuring original music by Emmy Award–winning composer Jim Camacho, Mouse King reimagines the classic Nutcracker story from the perspective of the mice. The result is a funny, heartwarming, and highly entertaining musical for the whole family.

This exciting production is open by audition to students from all schools in grades K–5. Auditions take place in September, and rehearsals are held after school at the Mandelstam Theatre. Roles include singers, dancers, actors, and ensemble performers. While participation is selective, the experience is designed to be joyful and supportive for young artists.

For participants, being part of Mouse King is a highlight of the year. They benefit from working with professional directors and choreographers in a real theater setting—growing their confidence, stage presence, and love for the performing arts.
